Dr. Steven G. Ullmann is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Sector Management and Policy and Director of the Center for Health Sector Management and Policy at the University of Miami School of Business Administration. Dr. Ullmann holds secondary appointments in the Department of Economics as well as in the Departments of Public Health Sciences and Family Medicine and Community Health in the Miller School of Medicine.
In addition, Dr. Ullmann has served the University of Miami in various roles to include, Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Dr. Ullmann holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with Distinction from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Master’s and PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
He is the author of over 40 monographs, book chapters, refereed journal articles, commentaries, invited articles and abstracts. With recent issues in healthcare his expertise has been sought after for interviews, commentaries and panel discussions by local, national and global news outlets and conferences. News outlets include CBS, Fox Business News, CNN, PBS Nightly Business Reports, America Economia, The Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel. In 2015, along with co-author Mary Helen Spooner, Dr. Ullmann published the book “Cuban Health Care” Utopian Dreams, Fragile Future.”
Dr. Ullmann has served on governing boards and ethics boards of health care providers and has served as a consultant to the health care industry. He has worked globally in the areas of privatization and implementation of health care management structures in Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.
